How broker commission is hidden in your business energy bill

5 min read

When you use a broker to find a business energy contract, their service isn't free. The supplier pays the broker a commission.

However, this commission is usually hidden. It is built into the unit rate you are quoted. For example, if the supplier's raw price is 20p/kWh, and the broker adds a 3p/kWh uplift, you are quoted a 'blended' rate of 23p/kWh. You never see the 3p fee. On a 50,000 kWh contract that's £1,500 quietly pocketed with no line item anywhere on your bill.

At Utility Bill Checker, we believe this practice is outdated. Our fee for energy switches is capped, flat, and paid by the supplier — not charged to you directly. Shown clearly before you agree to anything. Never hidden in the unit rate. Total transparency.
